Just before midnight on October 2, shots rang out near the intersection of SE 122nd Avenue and Salmon Street, and two men went down, causing several neighbors to call the 9-1-1 Center about the incident.

Portland Police Bureau (PPB) East Precinct officers were dispatched at 11:43 p.m., and found the two gunshot victims. “Both victims were taken by ambulance to local hospitals,” said PPB Public Information Officer Sergeant Brad Yakots.

PPB Gun Violence Reduction Team officers secured the crime scene and began an investigation, and one suspect was detained, Yakots informed.

An ambulance takes a shooting victim, with critical injuries, to a local hospital.

“We just finished watching a movie on TV and were heading to bed when we heard the ole’ familiar ‘pop, pop, pop’ of a gun firing ,” remarked neighbor George Chase, who said he then watched two ambulances pull up in the area.

“After living here for more than 20 years, I’m sad to say that I’m not at all surprised when police cars come roaring in here on a regular basis – when someone has been shot or stabbed,” Chase told East Portland News.

Later the next morning, Sergeant Yakots told reported that the investigation is ongoing in the shooting incident. “One gunshot victim suffered non-life-threatening injuries; the other victim is still in an Intensive Care Unit, with critical injuries.”
