After a gunshot rang out just before 3:30 a.m. on August 22, Portland Police Bureau (PPB) officers were called to the 7-Eleven store on SE 82nd Avenue of Roses at Flavel Street.
Within minutes of the reported shooting, four police cruisers arrived at the Brentwood-Darlington neighborhood convenience store to investigate.
Although medical emergency first-responders were also dispatched, they could find no shooting victim.
“Initial information indicates that a man was shot at that location; but he arrived at a hospital via private vehicle,” said PPB Public Information Officer Carlos Ibarra. “We do not have updates on his condition.”

Mike Kingston, a nearby resident, said the commotion awoke him. “There were a lot of police looking around the store,” he told East Portland News, early that morning. “I hope it wasn’t another gang shooting.”
Ibarra had the answer: “This shooting appears accidental at this time; and, it was self-inflicted.”
