This week’s criminal homicide case isn’t a shooting. In the wee hours of Sunday, February 11, Portland Police Bureau (PPB) East Precinct officers were dispatched to a “Stabbing-with-Weapon” call at 1:23 a.m. in the Safeway parking lot along SE 122nd Avenue at Powell Boulevard.

An ambulance speeds into the parking lot. However, the paramedics soon discover that the male stabbing victim is already dead.

The first-arriving officers reported back on finding a victim there. Paramedics, who were also dispatched to the incident, found that the man was deceased at the scene.

PPB Homicide Unit detectives were called in to investigate the murder.

The PPB’s Mobile Command Unit rolls into the parking lot to serve as an office for the Homicide Unit detectives.

“The suspect or suspects left the scene before police were called, and no immediate arrests were made,” a PPB official later acknowledged. “No suspect information is being released at this time.”

On February 14th, PPB officials announced that the man killed in this homicide had been identified as 43-year-old Ladarius Davis of Portland, The Medical Examiner determined Davis had indeed died of homicide by stabbing.
