Here’s the story about another fatal collision in outer East Portland along NE Sandy Boulevard …
In the Wilkes neighborhood, along NE Sandy Boulevard, the Portland Police Bureau Major Crash Team is called in to investigate a fatal crash involving a van, and a motorcycle rider.

Reports of a two-vehicle collision on NE Sandy Boulevard at 162nd Avenue in outer east Portland on July 1, dispatched Portland Police Bureau (PPB) North Precinct officers to the scene at 12:29 p.m. that afternoon.
Officers located the two vehicles involved, a van and a motorcycle. “The motorcyclist was severely injured, and died after lifesaving efforts by paramedics,” a PPB spokesperson said.
The driver of the van remained on scene and is cooperating with officers; and, the PPB’s Major Crash Team (MCT) was called to investigate the crash.
Crash details revealed
Preliminary information was that a 2007 Chevrolet minivan was northbound NE 162nd Avenue turning to westbound NE Sandy Boulevard, proceeding through the intersection on a green light. The motorcycle, a 2009 Suzuki, was eastbound on NE Sandy Boulevard and proceeded on a red light, colliding with the driver’s side front quarter panel of the minivan.
One of two occupants of the minivan suffered minor injuries, which were treated at the scene.

The motorcyclist who died in crash was later identified as 31-year-old Michael Gazeley-Romney, of Portland.
No charges or citations have been issued.
This is the 37th MCT activation and 30th traffic fatality for 2021 in the City of Portland. In 2020, was the highest fatality year in three decades, and then, Portland didn’t record 30 fatalities until August 30, fatalities two months ahead of that pace.
