On Friday, the first day of September, Portland Police Bureau (PPB) North Precinct officers were dispatched at 5:02 a.m. to an injury accident reported to be on NE Sandy Boulevard at 112th Avenue.

When officers arrived, they found a single-vehicle crash. Paramedics responded with Portland Fire & Rescue, and determined that the driver – an adult male — was dead at the scene

The death prompted PPB’s Traffic Division Major Crash Team to arrive for an investigation of the crash.

Investigators later revealed that the vehicle, a white 2011 Buick Lacrosse, was traveling at a high rate of speed on NE Sandy Boulevard. The vehicle struck the raised center median, lost control, and crashed through a power pole, a bus stop, and two trees.

This became a complicated scene to address due to the upper half of the power pole being suspended by the attached wires with other wires breaking and falling to the ground.

Throughout the morning, Sandy Boulevard was closed between 111th and 113th Avenues, while the investigation was underway

On September 2, PPB officials revealed that 39-year-old Terrelle L. Tucker, only occupant of the involved vehicle, was the person who died in the crash. Officials declined to say what may have lead up to the crash.

As the 45th fatal crash this year in Portland, this incident is another setback for the goals of the Portland Bureau of Transportation’s Vision Zero program.
