Week #108 Shooting Report | WATCH VIDEOS OF INVESTIGATORS AT WORK | Deadly shootings continue in outer East Portland — as violent, armed people continue causing mayhem in our streets …
Portland Police Bureau officers are called to another deadly shooting this week, again in the Powellhurst-Gilbert neighborhood, as well as injury shooting incidents.

This week, shootings continued across the City of Portland. One of them took the life of a man in the Powellhurst-Gilbert neighborhood; and another such incident in the Montavilla neighborhood left two persons wounded.
And, as our Centennial neighbors in the Rosewood District already know, the problem of violent people using guns to commit crimes doesn’t stop at the border, as Gresham logged seven shootings in six days.
“At one shooting we recovered 50-some casings, and another one had 111 spent casings – that’s unheard of; that’s not okay in our community,” Gresham Police Department Chief Travis Gullberg told reporters.

Powellhurst-Gilbert shooting kills one
At the intersection of SE Bush Street and 136th Avenue, relatives, friends and neighbors gather outside the crime scene of a gunshot homicide.
Portland Police Bureau (PPB) officials are staying mum about their investigation of a shooting on Wednesday evening, August 10, other than to say that the victim is dead.
At 9:11 p.m., PPB East Precinct officer were dispatched to SE Bush Street – specifically, to at one of the a rowhouse units west of SE 136th Avenue, for a “Shooting-with Weapon” call.
An officer guards the outer perimeter crime scene as investigators begin to come into the area.
Family members were gathering near the cordoned-off residences that they were calling “apartments” – but are officially named the Springwater Corridor Condominiums, according to Portland Maps.
It didn’t take long for officers to block off SE Bush from 134th to 136th Avenues. And, as many as 25 police cruisers — plus command staff, detectives, and investigators – were soon filling the narrow street.

From some distance away, the wail of aggrieved relatives filled the air. One female voice called out in anguish, “My cousin is shot dead”. Later, a person who identified himself as Shawnte Harris, told reporters it was 42-year-old Dejohntae Campbell who died in this shooting. The identity of the deceased has not been confirmed by officials.
UPDATE:
Shawntae Harris has set up a GoFundMe page to raise funds to help support the children of this slain man, Dejohntae Campbell. CLICK HERE to open that page and donate. Family image, posted on Dejohntae Campbell’s GoFundMe page
At 10:06 p.m., the PPB’s Mobile Command Center rolls into the area.
At both ends of the crime scene perimeter, disconcerted relatives demanded to enter the restricted area, but were calmed by officers who patiently explained that an official homicide investigation was taking place.
“East Precinct officers and Focused Intervention Team (FIT) officers responded to a report of a shooting at that location,” a PPB official confirmed in a press release. “When they arrived they located a deceased victim; the suspect or suspects had already fled, and no arrests were made at that time.”
Standing next to the PPB Mobile Command Center, investigators and officers talk about their findings, early in the investigation.

Shooting near Montavilla cemetery wounds two
NE Glisan Street is closed down, as police investigate a shooting south, along SE 90th Avenue.
As the sun set on the sultry Sunday afternoon of August 7, a fusillade of gunshots rang out at the northeast end of Montavilla neighborhood. Residents reported hearing shouts, screams, and tires “burning out” northbound on NE 90th Avenue from Flanders Street.
East Precinct officers dispatched to the area at 7:17 p.m. that evening didn’t find any victims, but they did encounter an abundance of evidence — including many spent bullet shell casings, which were duly marked by officers on NE 90th Avenue between Brainard Cemetery and The Bridge Apostolic Church.
Standing near the entrance to Brainard Cemetery, along NE 90th Avenue, officers await the arrival of detectives.
Also, on the north side of NE Glisan Street just east of 90th Avenue, the street-facing side of a new TriMet glass bus shelter had been shattered by bullets. Broken malt liquor bottles and pop cans littered the road.
Watch, as officers document this shooting scene:
“Officers found several bullet strikes to parked vehicles that appeared to be unrelated to the shooting,” PPB Public Information Officer Lt. Nathan Sheppard told East Portland News. “Officers interviewed witnesses who described hearing between 40-60 shots.”
This is consistent with the number of spent shell casings found and marked.
Yellow evidence markers show the location of where each of the dozens of spent bullet casings are located across NE 90th Avenue.
“No shooting victims were found on-scene at the time; however, while officers were still there, two men arrived at a local hospital with what appeared to be non-life-threatening gunshot wounds,” Lt. Sheppard informed. Officers did determine that the two individuals had been injured in this shooting.”
Officers find bullet holes in buildings and vehicles on NE Glisan Street, as well the glass shot out on this TriMet bus stop.
Members of the Enhanced Community Safety Team (ECST) responded, and are still investigating the shooting. So far, no arrests have been made. This is Case No. 22-212145.
Eight more injury shootings across Portland
Meantime, outside of our outer East Portland neighborhoods, more people were injured by gunfire this week.
Four of the seven shootings in Gresham this week resulted in victims being wounded; and, across the city, four additional shootings wounded individuals in the Eliot, East Columbia, Hollywood, and Kenton neighborhoods.
~ SHOTS FIRED LOG ~
This week’s “Shots Fired Log” lists 28 such calls in our area; down from last week. However, criminals with guns don’t constrain themselves to our neighborhood. Outside of our area, police responded to an additional 44 “Shots Fired” calls. However, at some of these calls, officers sometimes do not find evidence of shooting.

We are still hopeful that the plan Portland’s Police Commissioner and Mayor Ted Wheeler calls “Safer Summer PDX” may yet reduce the level of daily violence committed by vicious people using guns.
