While most people were enjoying the Independence Day holiday weekend, Portland Police Bureau (PPB) officers and detectives were working at the scene of a “disturbance” on July 5 at 11:24 a.m. Their location was a residence in the 400 block of SE 99th Avenue.
“On-scene, officers discovered the body of a deceased female, and took a male suspect into custody,” revealed PPB Public Information Officer Lieutenant Tina Jones.
Soon many law enforcement vehicles were parked along SE 99th Avenue, between SE Oak and Pine streets, as investigators looked into the deadly incident.
“The PPB’s Homicide Detail conducted an investigation, with the aid of the Multnomah County District Attorney’s Office and the Oregon State Medical Examiner’s Office,” Jones added.
The street is blocked off, while a murder investigation gets underway.
Arrested at the crime scene was 54-year-old Todd Allan Carr, who was booked into the Multnomah County Detention Center (MCDC) at 10:34 p.m. the same evening on one count of Murder in the Second Degree.
A statement from the Oregon State Medical Examiner’s Office identified the victim as 73-year-old Sharon Carr (Tate) of Southeast Portland – and revealed that the cause of death was blunt force trauma, and the manner to be a homicide.

On July 6, Multnomah County District Attorney Rod Underhill announced the filing of a single count charging document against Carr, who is accused of murdering his mother.
According to charging documents, during a court-authorized search warrant, law enforcement located more than one knife inside the residence.
Carr is being held, without bail, in the MCDC.
