A shooting that took place in the Lents neighborhood on the morning of April 24, earlier this year, left a man severely wounded and in “critical condition”, officials said. That incident brought Portland Police Bureau (PPB) East Precinct officers to the three-way intersection of SE 84th Avenue, Ellis Street, and Foster Road.
The shooting appeared to have taken place on the south side of SE Foster road, in or near the Hing Ming Market.

On December 4, Multnomah County District Attorney Rod Underhill announced that a grand jury has indicted 29-year-old David Remone Jones, already a convicted felon, for murdering 39 year-old James Gerald Richardson.
The indictment, filed on July 9, 2019, charges Jones with one count of murder with a firearm, two counts of unlawful use of a weapon with a firearm. and one count of being a felon in possession of a firearm, according to Underhill.

On December 3, members of the U.S. Marshals Service Pacific Northwest Fugitive Apprehension Task Force brought Jones to Oregon from Texas. He was booked into the Multnomah County Detention Center (MCDC) at 12:44 p.m., and was arraigned in Multnomah County Circuit Court the following day.
Currently, Jones, is being held at the MCDC without bail on the First Degree Murder charge, a Class A Felony; and also three felony weapons charges.
