It remains unclear whether 57-year-old Laurie Pierce was crossing SE Holgate Boulevard in the crosswalk SE 92nd Avenue, or just west of it, when she was struck by a vehicle on March 1 about 7:30 a.m.

Pierce sustained “life threatening injures” according to officers, and was rushed to a hospital.

“The Portland Police Bureau (PPB) Major Crash Team responded to assist in the traffic crash investigation,” reported PPB Public Information Officer Sergeant Brad Yakots shortly after the incident.

After interviewing witnesses, officers exchange information.

SE Holgate Boulevard was closed off in both directions by nine PPB units, between SE 91st and 92nd Avenues, as the investigation got underway.

A white Kia Sorento SUV, with its front end substantially crumpled, was stopped facing westbound – a tire just over the center line, and hazard lights flashing. Personal clothing items remained in front of the KIA, as investigators continued looking into the crash.

Officials have yet to reveal any more information about this ultimately fatal collision.

“The driver of the Kia remained at the scene of the crash, and cooperated with the investigation; the investigation is continuing,” is all that Yakots revealed, as he later announced that the victim had died at the hospital.

Anyone having witnessed this crash, or having information regarding the incident, is asked to contact Traffic Division Investigator Philip Maynard at 503-823-2216.

Trauma Intervention Program personnel come to scene to support witnesses, and perhaps family members of the victim.
