Shots were heard near a home on SE 146th Avenue, just south of East Burnside Street, on June 26 – which dispatched Portland Police Bureau (PPB) East Precinct officers to the area at 6:26 p.m.
“Officers contacted an adult male gunshot victim at a property associated with a residence, and he was transported by ambulance to a Portland hospital with serious, life-threatening injury,” said PPB Public Information Officer Sgt. Chris Burley.
Many police officers converge on the area where a man was reported seriously wounded by gunshots.
Detectives with the Bureau’s Assault Detail and were aided by Criminalists in evaluating the forensic evidence, Burley reported.
“In addition to the victim, officers also contacted the 9-1-1 caller,” Burley said.
Assault Detail detectives located and seized a firearm believed to be involved in the shooting, according to Burley; “Based on information known at this time, investigators believe the victim and suspect were known to one another.”
Criminalists from the Police Bureau’s Forensic Evidence Division assist with the investigation.
“During the investigation, officers learned the caller to 9-1-1 was also the suspected shooter – the suspect – later identified as 64-year-old David Edward Roberts. The suspect was taken into custody at the scene without incident,” Burley added.
The victim continues to receive medical treatment at a Portland hospital.
Now facing two felony charges is 64-year-old David Edward Roberts.
Roberts was booked into the Multnomah County Detention Center on June 27 at 1:07 a.m.
At his arraignment the following day in Multnomah County Court, the judge ordered Roberts to stand trial for two Class A Felonies, Attempted Murder, and Assault in the First Degree. He remains in custody at Inverness Jail in lieu of $500,000 combined bail.
