While many armed robberies occur in the dark of night, a brazen thug apparently decided to get an early start on his criminal day at 8:05 a.m. with a holdup at the Lucky Spot Deli in the Glenfair Neighborhood, 14919 SE Stark Street, on August 23.

Witnesses say the robber slugged the clerk of this outer East Portland lotto-deli, pointed a gun at her, demanded money, and then ran off with an undisclosed wad of cash.

Investigators discovered that the robber apparently knew the location of the store’s safe, and dragged the clerk to it, as they reviewed surveillance videos of the incident.

“One person was detained, when officers checked the neighborhood,” said Portland Police Bureau Sgt. Peter Simpson. “But Portland Police have not made any arrests in this case, and the person detained was not involved in the robbery.”

Police talk with witnesses, and search the neighborhood for robber of this local establishment, but so far have come up empty-handed.

The suspect is described as an African American male, 35 years old, 5’7″ to 5’9″ tall, chunky build, black hat, gray clothes, and black shoes.

“Anyone with information about this robbery is asked to call Detective Darren Posey at (503) 823-0403 or Darren.Posey@PortlandOregon.gov,” Simpson requested.

Surprisingly to some, the business stays open after the attack and robbery.
