Teenagers, out for a joyride in a stolen vehicle, brought themselves to the attention of Portland Police Bureau (PPB), on the evening of March 6.
“Officers with the PPB’s Gun Violence Reduction Team (GVRT) were conducting a focused patrol in the area of SE 82nd Avenue and Foster Road – an area where there has been recent gun violence activity,” said a Bureau official.
Officers work with the PPB’s Gun Violence Reduction Team to check out the stolen car being driven by a 16-year-old.
“A GVRT officer looked up the license plate of a car, a silver Nissan Rogue, and it came back as stolen – so they conducted a traffic stop, and found six juveniles inside,” the PPB spokesperson recounted.
During the investigation of the stolen car, officers found a gun inside the car. All of the teens asserted that the gun was not theirs.
This looks like a TSNIITOCHMASH semi-automatic pistol, manufactured in Russia, which officers recovered from the stolen car.
“No one has been charged with a crime related to the gun at this point, but the investigation is continuing into who had possession of it; future charges are possible,” the police official said.
The driver, a 16-year-old male, was charged with Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle. The car was returned to its owner.
