A gun-brandishing bank robber walked into the Gateway-area Columbia State Bank at 3:39 p.m. on August 14 – leading to the dispatch of several Portland Police Bureau (PPB) East Precinct District patrol cars to the branch, located at 10735 Northeast Halsey Street.

The suspect flashed an odd grin as he entered the bank, displayed a handgun, and demanded money.

From this still image taken from surveillance video, it appears as if this suspect is smiling as he says, “Hi! I’m here to rob your bank!!

“After obtaining an undisclosed amount of money, the suspect bank on foot and ran into the neighborhood,” recounted PPB Public Information Officer Sgt. Pete Simpson.

“Officers conducted an extensive neighborhood search for the suspect but did not locate anyone matching his description,” Simpson added. “But, officers did locate a few bills of US currency, suspected of being taken in the bank robbery, in the yard of an area house.”

On several occasions during the holdup, this armed robbery suspect nervously licks his lips. Note the light skin on the front of his face, looking perhaps like he’s a burn victim.

Another nervous tic he haswas pushing his eyeglasses up the bridge of his nose.

The suspect is described as a white male in his 50s, 5’9″ tall, 200 pounds, dark hair, dark baseball cap, glasses, a black T-shirt with a colorful design on the front, and tan shorts.

Anyone with information about this robbery should contact Detective Darren Posey at (503) 823-0403 or the Portland office of the F.B.I. at (503) 224-4181.

This man displayed a gun – if you see him, call 9-1-1.
