On the corner of NE 102nd Avenue and NE Halsey Street, Original Joe’s, the Gateway home of “Hand Dipped Corndogs”, was held up just before 9:00 p.m. on March 10.

Portland Police Bureau (PPB) East Precinct district officers said the suspect entered the business just before closing, armed with a handgun, and demanded money.

“After obtaining an undisclosed amount of money, the suspect fled the store out the back door,” said PPB Public Information Officer Sgt. Pete Simpson.

Even a police dog couldn’t sniff out the suspect, most likely carrying money that smelled like deep fryer shortening.

Several officers, including a Police K-9 Unit, searched the area, but did not locate anyone matching the suspect’s description, Simpson reported.

“The suspect is described as a white male in his 20s, 6’1″ tall, 150 pounds, wearing a gray hoodie, blue jeans, and a bandana covering his face,” Simpson described. “Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call Robbery detectives at (503) 823-0405.”
