Hearing gunshots ring out at night on an increasingly regular basis promotes mounting concerns to residents of outer East Portland neighborhoods.
When six or more gunshots were fired the a few minutes before midnight on April 30, just outside the Eaton Village Apartments at SE 157th Avenue and SE Division Street, it put at least one resident on edge.
“It was right outside of my place,” resident Edith Tremble told East Portland News. “I hear what sounds like guns shooting all the time now. But, with it being right here, outside my window. That makes me feel real uneasy.”
Officers and paramedics come to the area where a man was reportedly shot multiple times.
“Limited witness information indicates that the African American male suspect was with two other African American males, and the group fled the scene on foot after the shooting,” said Portland Police Bureau (PPB) Public Information Officer Sgt. Pete Simpson.
Additional information uncovered by the PPB Gang Enforcement Team indicated that the shooting was gang-related, Simpson added.
The shooting victim is loaded into an ambulance, and prepared for transport to a hospital.
The assault victim, 41-year-old Anthony Antonio Burns, was suffering from multiple gunshot wounds, Simpson noted. “Burns was transported to a Portland hospital for treatment to life-threatening injuries.”
Anyone with information about gang and/or gun crimes in the City of Portland is encouraged to provide information to the Portland Police Bureau’s Tactical Operations Division at (503) 823-4106.
