Fire chars room in Brentwood-Darlington motel room

Here’s what’s known about an outer East Portland fire, just across the street from the Lents neighborhood …

After a blaze that destroyed a room at the Dar-Ron Motel, southbound SE 82nd Avenue of Roses is closed to protect Portland Fire units stopped in the traffic lanes.

A fire in the Dar-Ron Motel, at 7707 SE 82nd Avenue of Roses on June 24, brought in Portland Fire & Rescue (PF&R) crews at 12:12 p.m. that afternoon.

Traffic was blocked along the thoroughfare, from S.E. Flavel to Malden Streets, as PF&R rigs from Lents Station 11 and Woodstock Station 25 pulled in to fight the fire.

A firefighter looks into the burned motel room, making sure it’s safe for crews to reenter.

The blaze was quickly extinguished in the room gutted by fire; then a crew member headed back in to spray Class A Foam, a wetting agent, to snuff out any remaining embers.

“This was a ‘room and contents fire’ in one unit at this motel,” confirmed PF&R Public Information Officer Lt. Laurent Picard.

After the fire is out, a crew member enters the burned unit carrying a Class A Foam unit to put out any fire that remains.

“Engine 11’s crew had the fire knocked down five minutes after their arrival, and they found it had not spread past the involved unit,” Picard told East Portland News. “There were no injuries, and the incident was quickly ‘recalled’.”

Examining the incident report, Picard disclosed that the PF&R Fire Investigations Unit had determined that the cause of the fire was a malfunctioning mini-refrigerator.
