Responding to “shots fired” calls that came into 9-1-1, Portland Police Bureau (PPB) East Precinct District Officers converged in the Hazelwood Neighborhood near NE 117th and NE Halsey Street on September 1, at 2:35 a.m.
There’s no indication that the gunpfire had anything to do with the establishment – Don’s Dugout, located at 11642 NE Halsey Street – where police found “evidence of gunfire”, according to PPB Public Information Officer Sgt. Pete Simpson.
What they didn’t find were any victims – or any suspects.
After strolling through the neighborhood, the suspected gunman ended up here – between the Taco Bell and Jody’s Bar & Grill, in the parking lot.
Apparently, the shooting suspect walked south on NE 117th Avenue, through the neighborhood, and turned east on NE Glisan Street.
“Approximately 15 minutes later, officers responded to the report of a man brandishing a firearm in the parking lot of Jody’s Bar & Grill,” Simpson reported.
Police say they arrested this man, 29-year-old Gerry Deray Cunningham, and recovered a handgun. MCDC booking photo
Officers arrived at the establishment’s parking lot, Simson said, and arrested 29-year-old Gerry Deray Cunningham at 2:42 a.m. They recovered a handgun. “No victims of the shooting have been located.”
Cunningham was booked into the Multnomah County Jail 5:28 a.m. on charges of being a Felon in Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, and Unlawful Use of a Weapon.
At this writing, Cunningham is lodged at the Multnomah County Inverness Jail in lieu of a $20,000 bond; and he is also being held for Parole Violation.
