The suspect that police are now looking for strolled into the Best Baguette store on August 25th looking for the cash register. Frame from PPB-supplied surveillance video
Story by David F. Ashton
Many people every week go to the “Best Baguette” store on SE Powell Boulevard, just east of SE 82nd Avenue of Roses for a great Vietnamese-style sandwich, or French-styled foods.
But the man who strolled into the store at 8308 SE Powell Boulevard on August 25, at about 7:35 p.m., said he wanted a different kind of “bread” – all the cash from their money drawer.
This is the best shot we could find from the police-provided surveillance footage of the suspect, looking up. Frame from PPB-supplied surveillance video
“Officers arrived, and learned that the suspect approached the counter and displayed a handgun as he demanded money,” stated Portland Police Bureau (PPB) Public Information Lt. Robert King, when he issued a “Crime Stoppers Alert” this week. “The victim backed away from the cash register, as the suspect reached over and took an undisclosed amount of money out of it and placed the cash into a bag.”

The suspect then left the area on foot, King added.
According to PPB Robbery Division detectives, the suspect is a white male, 5’11”, 175 pounds, wearing a light blue T-shirt with a white logo across the chest, a khaki baseball cap, dark hair, dark shorts, dark tennis or hiking shoes, and he carried a white bag. As you can see, he’s also wearing shades.
