When an employee stepped left the store about 1:00 p.m. on April 5 – and locked the door – to take out some trash, an individual looking like a potential customer turned up and waited outside the Cricket Wireless store, located just east of 82nd Avenue at 8226 NE Fremont Street.

Once inside, the older-looking fellow, a described “snappy dresser” with a purple slouch hat and white athletic socks and tennis shoes, made it clear that he didn’t want a cell phone – he was there to rob the store.

This frame capture from the store’s video surveillance system shows the armed robber pulling the gun.

“The suspect displayed a handgun, and demanded money from the employee,” said Portland Police Bureau Public Information Officer Sgt. Pete Simpson. “After obtaining an undisclosed amount of cash, the suspect left the store and was last seen walking eastbound, toward Mt. Tabor, on foot.”
Several officers checked the neighborhood but did not locate anyone matching the suspect’s description, Simpson said.

The suspect is described as a white male in his 50s, 5’10” tall, gray hair, a purple bandana on his head, red & gray shirt, blue shorts, and black shoes – certainly with poor fashion sense; but armed with a handgun.

The employee hands over a wad of cash to the armed robbery suspect in this video surveillance still frame.
