When neighbors alerted police that gunshots were heard near SE 119th Avenue and Ash Street in the early afternoon of April 1, that wasn’t an “April Fools” prank.
Portland Police Bureau (PPB) East Precinct officers were dispatched to the scene at 1:57 p.m. that afternoon, and closed off SE Ash Street, from 119th to 122nd to begin an investigation.
From at the number of yellow evidence markers here at the scene, numerous shots were fired in the incident. PPB image
“Officers found cartridge casings and a vehicle that had been struck by gunfire,” a police spokesperson said, adding, “There have been no injuries reported as a result of this shooting.”
Neighbors living in the row houses along the street were instructed to stay inside, as the PPB Gun Violence Reduction Team arrived to assist in the investigation.
Fortunately, no one was reported injured, but this pickup truck may need some body work to repair the bullet strike damage. PPB image
At this time, officials wouldn’t say if they believe there’s a continuing danger to area residents, but they did tell us that the investigation into this incident continues.
