Beautiful weather brings out car enthusiasts and spectators alike to attend East Portland events – such as the 2015 Foster Road Cruise-in.

The weather was perfect on July 12, as the owners of 71 classic, custom, and specialized vehicles pulled into the Junior Achievement parking lot at 7830 SE Foster Road – and also along SE 78th Avenue, which was temporarily-closed for the cruise-in.

A highlight of the show was the car brought by “The Hot Rod Lady”, Joyce Johnson, who showed off her 1929 Model A roadster pickup, the “Cherry Bomb”.

There was a lot to see at this year’s cruise-in.

Car show organizer Ted Finlay was helping this year’s sponsor gather the ballots that would determine which entries would be taking home a trophy created by Classic Trophies & T-Shirts, just east on SE Foster Road.

“I do like being around cars.” said event sponsor Peggy Romero, Allstate Insurance agent, whose office is located just across the street from the event. “As members of the Foster Area Business Association, we see this as a way to attract positive attention to our district.”

Even more than working on their cars, these enthusiasts love sharing stories about them.

Tyler Smith and his wife Stacy Smith serve as “hot dog chefs” for the day.

Romero smiled as she looked at the rows of gleaming vehicles on display, and the guests stopping by to admire them.

“I like the sense of community that brings people together, to get to know their neighbors and have fun,” Romero told East Portland News. “It’s so much fun listening to the band, and watching everyone have a good time.”

This rockin’ band, referred to on the day’s program as “Live Music”, is actually named “Nuisance”.
