Burglar steals Hazelwood man’s ‘wedding’

This New Year’s wedding will probably still take place – but, under a dark cloud, most likely …

Along this block (but not these specific houses) in Hazelwood – a block east of Adventist Medical Center – a burglar took more than just merchandise, police say.

A Hazelwood neighborhood groom-to-be left his house for work on December 17 at about 8:00 a.m. – never expecting that 14 hours later, he’d come home to find a burglar had swiped  his and his bride-to-be’s wedding gifts.

“At 11:08 p.m., East Precinct officers responded to the report of a burglary to a residence in the 10900 block of SE Market Street,” reported Portland Police Bureau Public Information Officer Sgt. Pete Simpson.

Officers checked the perimeter of the home and discovered that the burglar removed a pane of glass from a door at the rear of the home to get into the attached garage. Officers also discovered a backyard gate ajar that the homeowner said was always kept closed.

Many wedding gifts – including cash, gift cards, and his fiancée’s wedding band, and even sets of linens – were stolen.

“The couple is to be married in two weeks,” Simpson said.

Burglary detectives are investigating, and asking for anyone with information to e-mail tips to CrimeTips@PortlandOregon.gov.
