You may recall that in April, members of the Montavilla Food Cooperative (MFC) Board of Directors revealed the organization’s progress, as they neared membership goals. [CLICK HERE to see our coverage of the announcements.]

Their next public event took place on June 22 – the MFC Annual Pancake Brunch, held again this year at the Montavilla United Methodist Church.

Families neighbors meet and eat at this fun event.

“Food coordinator”, and MFC founding member, Luby Wind – “Don’t you dare call me chef!” – whips up her widely-admired yogurt, infused with lemon and honey dressing.

Westview High School student JoJo Scott serenades, during the brunch.

“We were talking about it last night as we set up, and we think this is our 10th annual Pancake Brunch fundraiser,” remarked MFC Board Chair Caitlin Dickinson

“This is an opportunity to get together with community members; and also, it’s a chance for neighbors get know other neighbors,” Dickinson told East Portland News.

Since their Annual Meeting, MFC has hit their “magic membership number” threshold of 750 – and have exceeded it. “This means we can officially hold business negotiations with potential property owners, and then sign a contract,” informed Dickinson.

MFC member and volunteer Tina Granzo, of City Beautiful Design, serves herself brunch at the buffet.

It’s “all business” for young diner Jackson Gehman, at the MFC Pancake Brunch!

“We’re still optimistic, perhaps naively so, that by the end of the year construction on our store will have begun,” smiled Dickinson.
