After being closed due to the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic, the outer East Portland center of creative arts, Arte Soleil, “came alive” on Sunday afternoon, May 30, with their first event since the pandemic shut-down.
In the parking lot, canopies were set up for local organizations to meet with those who came; one canopy hosted musical acts throughout the afternoon.
Kris Bella, co-owner of Arte Soleil speaks with guests.
“We’re calling our event, Arte Soleil presents: Reconnecting with Music! this afternoon,” said co-owner Kris Bella.
“We’re bringing ourselves back, after being closed to the public for some 15 months now,” Bella told East Portland News. “We’re doing this because we miss everybody; and, we decided that it was time bring some music and creativity back into our community, to give inspiration!”
Art therapist Michael Clark tells of their healing program coming to Arte Soleil.

During the time they were closed, the artists’ collective wasn’t idle. “We started an Etsy store to sell artist bundles online. In this way, our creators have still had recognition and sales,” Bella informed.
“We don’t know what our store’s hours or days will be, yet; but, if anyone wants to come in, we will do let them into the showroom, or to come do art, by appointment.” said Bella. “We want to do this as safely as possible as we transition smoothly back into more normal operations.”
“And again, we’re pleased to be partnering with the Powellhurst-Gilbert Neighborhood Association help ‘bring life back’ to our neighborhood, and to let people once again get connected with one another,” Bella remarked, as she turned to greet folks coming into the shop.
