Security guards assigned to the Marshall Campus – currently the temporary Grant High School site – called the Portland Police Bureau (PPB) on July 20 at 3:26 a.m. when a security alarm went off.
When officers arrived at the school complex at 3905 SE 91st Avenue, the guard that met them said there were “multiple people’s voices” in the school, causing guards to call for police backup before investigating.

Numerous officers responded to the secondary dispatch and began stationing themselves around the building.
“A police canine team assisted with the burglary investigation; and, as officers searched the facility, three suspects ran from the building and were taken into custody by the officers positioned outside,” said PPB Public Information Officer Sgt. Chris Burley.

During the investigation, officers found a backpack believed to belong to the suspects. “Inside the backpack was loaded firearm; and, upon further inspection, officers learned the firearm had previously been reported as a stolen gun,” Burley said.
Officers also came across considerable vandalism – including a broken window, and paint that had been spattered on the walls, lockers, and floors of the school.

Because of their ages, officials cannot reveal the names of the trio of vandals – one with a loaded, stolen handgun – but all three have been locked up at the Donald E. Long Juvenile Detention Home.
The criminal suspects are charged with Burglary in the Second Degree, Criminal Mischief in the Second Degree, Theft by Receiving in the First Degree, and Possession of a Loaded Firearm in Public.
