As two Portland Police Bureau (PPB) East Precinct officers were writing reports in the parking of the Division Crossing shopping center parking lot on September 2 at 2:14 a.m., they heard the sound of gunfire nearby.

They immediately responded, located two involved vehicles, detained the occupants, and found that no one was injured.

Upon investigation it was revealed that the circumstances of the incident fell under the jurisdiction of the PPB Human Trafficking Unit (HTU). Detectives responded and investigated the incident. A stolen handgun – reportedly taken in Portland in October of 2018 – was recovered from one of the vehicles.

This stolen, loaded – with a bullet in the chamber, ready to fire – Glock 20 pistol was found at the scene. With who it was found, and who shot it, remains untold.

“The investigation into the firearm and shooting is continuing,” a PPB spokesperson commented with eloquent vagueness.

HTU detectives responded and cited 45-year-old Steven Lustri of Gresham for Commercial Sexual Solicitation. Lustri was also the intended victim of the shooting.

Who fired the shots? Who had the stolen gun? So far, the PPB is remaining mum about these details.

Man shot, woman bludgeoned, in Hazelwood

Ambulances take the shooting and bludgeoning victims to hospitals.

The TriMet MAX Light Rail Blue Line was shut down on Sunday night, September 3, after a shooting along East Burnside Street.

Portland Police Bureau (PPB) East Precinct officers were dispatched at 8:04 p.m. to the 10500 block of East Burnside Street after a report of a shooting.

“Upon arrival, officers found one man with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to his leg, and a woman with non-life-threatening blunt force trauma to the head,” PPB Public Information Officer Sergeant Kevin Allen told East Portland News.

“The victims were both transported by ambulance to local hospitals for treatment,” Sergeant Allen continued. “However, the suspect fled before officers were called,” he added.

The PPB’s Enhanced Community Safety Team (ECST) was called in, and assumed control of the investigation. During their enquiry, investigators learned that the suspect was someone who was known to the victims.

The MAX Light Rail line is shut down while the investigation continues.

MAX tracks were shut down, in both directions, while the crime scene was processed by investigators.
